Operator Training and Train the Trainer Classes Policy
1. Objective
To deliver safe and effective training for operators and trainers on a variety of topics and equipment, including but not limited to Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), Cranes, and Fall Protection. This policy ensures compliance with OSHA and ANSI standards while maintaining a safe and effective learning environment.
2. Training Requirements
- Pre-Training Assessment:
- Employers must assess each student’s qualifications and readiness before attending training to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Only students sent by their current employer are eligible for classes.
- Training Curriculum:
- The curriculum includes both classroom instruction and practical exercises tailored to the specific equipment types and the customer's operational environment. Training materials will be reviewed and updated regularly to ensure relevance and compliance.
- Training Records:
- Customers are responsible for maintaining accurate training records for all operators and in-house trainers, in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Records must include training dates, topics covered, and assessment results and should be kept for at least 3 years.
- Student Behavior:
- Students are expected to exhibit professional behavior during training sessions and refrain from disruptive behavior. This includes:
- Arriving on time and being prepared for class.
- Those arriving more than 10 minutes late will not be allowed to stay.
- Multi day classes must be attended from the beginning of each day.
- Actively participating in discussions and practical exercises.
- Demonstrating respect for instructors, fellow students, and training materials.
- Always adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
- Engaging in constructive feedback and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Arriving on time and being prepared for class.
- Disruptive behavior, including but not limited to:
- Excessive talking or distractions.
- Inappropriate language or comments.
- Refusal to participate in training activities, may lead to removal from the training session at the trainer’s discretion.
- Students can be asked to leave the training for any reason, one warning may be given. If student refuses to leave, class will be stopped.

3. Assessment and Certification
- Written and Practical Testing:
- All operator and Train the Trainer courses require successful completion of both written and practical assessments. 70% score on true and false tests will be the standard score of completion. Assistance for language barriers or learning disabilities is at the discretion of the trainer, time constraints are to be considered as well.
- Trainer Discretion:
- Trainers hold sole discretion to determine pass/fail status based on observed behaviors, student engagement, and overall competence demonstrated during training sessions.
- Non-Passing Results and Refusal to Leave:
- Students who do not pass the assessments will be marked as such and will not be eligible for retakes.
- Any refusal to leave the training area or site when requested will result in immediate class termination and a failed status.
4. Train the Trainer Certification
- Certification Criteria:
- Prospective trainers must demonstrate proficiency in training delivery, assessment techniques, and classroom management to qualify for certification.
- Certification Validity:
- Certifications are valid for three years. After this period, trainers must complete refresher training (within 4 years of original class) or re-certification to maintain their qualification.
- Refresher training is available only if the trainer remains employed with the same employer and it is within four years from the date of the last Train the Trainer class.
- Trainers may also choose to retake the full Train the Trainer class for additional learning and skill enhancement.
- Course Materials:
- All training materials provided during the Train the Trainer courses are the property of the employer and are intended solely for in-house training at the customer’s facility. These materials are non-transferable and must not be removed from the employer’s premises or used for personal purposes.
- Customer Responsibility:
- Customers must ensure that in-house trainers maintain their certification status and utilize training materials as intended to ensure regulatory compliance.
5. Cancellation, Rescheduling, Class Delay, and PO Policies
- Customer-Initiated Cancellation:
- Cancellations made at least 5 business days in advance incur no additional fees.
- Cancellations made less than 5 business days before the scheduled class, including same-day cancellations or no-shows, will be billed in full.
- Rescheduling:
- Rescheduling is permitted without penalty if done more than 5 business days in advance. If rescheduling occurs within 5 business days of the class, the customer will incur a full charge for the missed class, but the rescheduled class will be offered at a one-time 50% discount.
- Weather or Emergency Cancellations:
- Training may be rescheduled without penalty due to severe weather or legitimate emergencies at the trainer’s discretion. If the trainer is already in route to the customer site at the time of cancellation, the full charge will still apply.
- Delay to Start of Class:
- Any delay beyond 15 minutes caused by the customer will incur a $100 fee, along with an additional charge of 10% of the class cost for each subsequent 15-minute delay.
- Purchase order:
- If PO numbers are required by customer and are not supplied within 10 days of the class start date, 10% of class cost will be added on.
